Big News
to help mollify your Covid Blues!
Gentleman,
The 2020 Horseshoe Ridge Ranch was fantastic- thank you to President Jim Bruce and the other STR officers and volunteers for pulling it together amidst some health related adversity this year.
Now for some Big News to help mollify your Covid Blues! August 4-8, 2021 our club will reconvene at Naughty Girl (Whorehouse) Meadows on Steens Mtn, returning for the first time since 1999. At 7500', this is likely the highest camp we have ever done, with the opportunity to ride to the top at 9900' above sea level. With any luck, we will abandon the plexiglass saloon divider, and get back to our typical bad habits at the Long Branch. Covid will be a memory so let's get fired up for a great event next summer.
This is a truly beautiful campsite- check the summer & fall scouting photos attached to this email. We have 360 degree fence-free access to the surrounding public lands, with no need to trailer horses from camp. There are several sources of water near camp, two prime swimming and fishing lakes close by, the Donnor and Blitzen River, and miles and miles of scenery. On a clear day, you can see a helluva long way, and the riding is mostly freelance, with few fences. You can choose a point in the distance, and for the most part, dead reckon right to it on your horse. We'll have the best rides scouted in advance.
Our camp meadow is somewhat compact, and I envision a member/guest headcount max of 75 or so riders, plus caterers. Members will have first dibs of course, and father/son combos are encouraged. Now is a good time to start thinking about your guests as I'm certain we will be booked to max capacity on this ride.
You'll receive another letter after the Officer's February meeting with additional details. By then we should know if an April Spring Dinner at Elephants is a possibility. For those that need rental horses, we'll be in touch with our wrangler friends at Chinook Pass Outfitters sometime in May to get those booked.
Enjoy your winter, fellow STR members.
